Highways and Interstate Accesslg-radius

 

Abingdon is conveniently located near three major Interstate corridors. I-81, the north/south route, offers three interchanges within Abingdon. Travel and transportation north and south are covered by I-77, just 50 miles to the north, and I-26, only 36 miles to the south. I-81 merges with I-40 only 75 miles to the south.

Area highways include: Highway 11; Highway 58; and Highway 19

 

Airports

 

Virginia Highlands Airport (VJI)

Virginia Highlands Airport is a regional base of operations for corporate and private airplanes. Runway: 6-24/4470′ x 75′ asphalt. Elevation is 2088 feet. Strategically located on Interstate 81 in Washington County, the airport is just minutes from Bristol, located on the Virginia-Tennessee state line, to the South and historic Abingdon to the North.

 

Tri-Cities Airpot (TRI)

Just 35 minutes south of Abingdon, Tri-Cities Regional Airport, TN/VA (TRI) is a full-service commercial airport serving Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina and Eastern Kentucky. The Airport offers nonstop flights to four hubs (Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and Tampa/Clearwater-St.Petersburg) on Allegiant, Delta Connection and US Airways Express

 

Railroads

 

CSX, and Norfolk Southern provide freight rail service.
